Under Threat
Homestake Valley is facing a potential large-scale construction proposal that would devastate its fragile ecosystem.
The cities of Aurora and Colorado Springs, which own water rights in the area, are considering a new dam and reservoir in the heart of the valley. This project would divert 20,000 acre-feet of water per year from the Western Slope to the Front Range and could eliminate as many as 497 acres from the Holy Cross Wilderness.
If completed, this treasured valley would be flooded and its rare fen wetlands and critical wildlife habitat would be lost.
Our Mission
The Save Homestake Valley campaign is committed to telling the story of this precious landscape and championing its permanent protection.
Our mission is twofold:
Prevent the construction of a new reservoir and any further water diversion
Advocate for a permanent protective status for Homestake Valley
We aim to accomplish this through visual storytelling and experiential learning, including:

A documentary film
Interactive maps and renderings
Community outreach programs
Take Action
